Sunny Hot Yuma

Well folks, our cool evenings - warm days are a thing of the past. It got up to a HOT 99 DEGREES!! Whew!! Can't do too much when it is that hot except we took off to the movies. Set the air-conditioning on for the kitties of course, and off we went. We decided to go see RV with Robin Williams.
The Theatre was very nice with stadium seating so everyone had a perfect view of the screen and the chairs were high backed rockers so we were VERY comfortable. It had been ages since I had gone to the movies. Boy if all the theatres had the high back rocking love seats I'd go more often!!
I love any movie with Robin Williams in it and this one was so funny my sides ached afterwards!! It is such a funny movie!! I can relate to it being a RV person but this was just over the tops hilarious.

Weather looks like it is not going to cool down so we will probably leave in a week or less. We'll get the locks for the gates and shed and then mosey down the road somewhere cooler. The cats are not going to be thrilled being restrained again after a month of freedom in the yard. We'll be back in Oct to drop off some stuff to the shed before continuing over to Dad Larry & Mom Mables house in Louisiana for the holidays.

Cruising the neighborhoods

One of the things we love about being in Yuma Foothills is cruising around all the neighborhoods on our bikes. I LOVE checking out all the yards. Some are beautiful and some are just darn right funny! Like this one, check out the marker to the right. ..Reserved for Saddam Hussein!

We have a fellow here called THE CACTUS MAN . His whole yard is FULL of different kinds of cactus that are for sale or are his own private collection. This cactus was for sale for $35 and each bloom ONLY blooms once. See the dark spot on the bottom of the cactus...that's the beginning of a new bloom.

Someone's house with way too much time on their hands, yes that is rockery looking like starfish and the roof looks like the Foothills!

Dan and I were going for a long bike ride the other day and found a motorhome like ours with this special canopy over it for shade. We stopped to ask where they got it but found out that their friends owned the lot . They were just there to get out of the sun while they were in town doing Doctor visits.

Right behind Dan was a Hummingbird nest and the Mama was feeding her baby! The rivet to the left of the mother is no bigger than a half dollar!

Here is a close up of the baby , no bigger than the length of my thumb, it would flap it's wings but would not leave the nest. You can see it is a baby because it does not have the Green color on it's back yet.

Party Time

We decided to have a get together with friends and neighbors Sunday afternoon.
We used one of our compartment doors like a buffet table







I think we figured out our patio wasn't wide enough for lots of company in the hot sun.
So we are going to add more cement to our patio area later on. We also need a larger shade area.

Another sunny day in Yuma

Ocotillo

Every day is a beautiful day here in the Yuma Foothills. I hear Mourning Doves cooing each morning and songs by red breasted male House Finches. Roadrunners sound like dogs pouting. All the cactus are in bloom now and just beautiful around our neighborhood. People wake up early and take their morning walks or bike rides before it warms up into the 80's or low 90's. Cats love running all over the yard and Biff is actually losing some weight! He is a happy camper now that he has his own yard to roam. Bad thing is they think it is a giant litter box! Groan!
Evening times are special because of the beautiful Sunsets and then just as the sun goes down and the marbled tangerine sky turns to several shades of blue the bats come flying out over the sky. It is quite amazing to watch them dart back and forth and do flips. Official name WESTERN PIPISTRELLE.
We like the bats because they eat all the bugs around here! We have very few bugs flying in the air. On the ground you will see black Beetles, crickets or a Geckos. Have not found a Tarantula yet...nor want to and I have not looked for Scorpions. Someone told me to go outside with a Black light and I will see them. Sorry that is when I stay inside....aaaugh! Have not come across a black Widow Spider either. I know we have spider webs in the shed so I have been nervous to clean out the shed.... I hate spiders!
We have to learn to live with all the critters since we hope to be here alot when the Northwest is so cold and rainy or snowing!

Need a new innertube for my bike tire keeps going flat. My dear Hubby switched the innertube so we will see if that works better. Think it was the valve because we can't find a hole in the inner tube. Later hopefully get a ice cream cone this afternoon....YUM!

Final visits to the Dentist this year

We finally finished up with all our dental work. Dan had one crown put on and I had alot of work done on my lower teeth and a mouth guard made. Everyone in the office was wonderful and we would get the giggles talking to Carlos & Oscar.
Carlos said we have seen more of Mexico than he has and he lives there!

If you want a great team go to the Sani Dental Group. They are very friendly, low costs and even gave Dan and I hats to wear! We highly recommend them!

Angie Krantz was our Realtor and helped us get the property. Don her husband was our contractor. Don had a crew come out and turn our 30 amp power
boxes to 50, added 10 more feet to our patio and a cement apron around the front gates to make them easier to open. Great team and they were both the best!

ALFA Get-together

Yesterday and today we got together with our friends who all own a ALFA Seeya motorhome like ours. Everyone came over to see the new lot.

Tom Weissman is our President of our chapter the Alfa Roadrunners, Dori Weissman is the Sec/Treasurer.

Critters and beauty in the Desert

This is Izzy our Desert Iguana that roams around our yard. He wasn't happy that I watered the cactus till he wanted a drink then he was grateful. Desert Iguana's are active in the daytime and eat plants.

They grow to be between 10-16 inches.

This is the Flowering stalk from our Century Plant.
Did you know it takes several years to flower and bloom only once. It was a source of food,medicine, tools and fiber to the Native Americans long ago. We have two plants, one has died and this one will die shortly after this stage.
