Boat ride near Port Townsend

Friends Brent & Diane Roulier have a lot up in Chimicum and took us out in the water around Port Townsend for a wonderful boat ride on the " Angler Management". We stopped and had a picnic lunch over by Indian Island & Fort Flagler.

Thanks for all the fun Brent & Di, we had a blast with you!!

We found an island where seals and seal pups go to sun themselves. The seals are in a protected area not far from Port Townsend.

In Port Townsend it was not unusual to find people standing around playing the Violin, we counted at least eight! Love hearing them play!

This guy was selling succulent plants, I got the giggles from seeing his braided beard.

One of the traits I think in this town...long hair and beards to look like scruffy old sailors.

32nd Annual Wooden Boat Festival

Jenny ventured into Port Townsend with friends Brent & Diane and their Daughter and Son-in-law to see all the boats in the marina and out on Hudson Point. Dan was under the weather with a cold so he stayed behind at the motorhome. Get well Dan.

I was amazed so see SO many wooden sailboats and they were just beautiful!!! Got to explore several of the big boats. Found our friends Lin & Maryke Hines boat but they were not on the boat. Perfect day, sunny and warm and we had a great time!!

Port Townsend is very much a boating town where shipwrights, marine trades experts and apprentices, maritime history buffs and educators are at work and play every day, all year, and where you can always find a sailor with whom to share your biggest challenge and your greatest hope.

Sail boats with the Steilacoom ll ferry inbetween. The Steilacoom ll goes between downtown Port Townsend and keystone harbor on Whidbey Island

Built for the President of the Stock Exchange in 1929, Olympus served several owners before silent movie star Mary Stewart brought her to the West coast. She served the Navy during World War ll and was then acquired as a state fisheries patrol vessel, but Washington's governor commandeered her as the state yacht. When his political opponents discovered what he paid for the restoration, he lost the election!

Elmore 1890
Elmore was used to carry passengers and freight between Astoria and Tillamook before the road was built. She was then used as a ferry to Alaska during the late 1890's Klondike Gold Rush. In 1922 she burned to the waterline and was rebuilt as a combo tug/fish carrier. She continued as a tugboat till 1982, when she was stripped and sold as a hull. Floyd Waite then bought her and restored her. Since 1990, they have cruised her to Alaska and the San Juans
