Central Valley RV Repair

We stopped over night at Central Valley RV Repair in Lodi CA to get new awning straps for the big slide awning.
Straps snapped when the wind got nasty in Winchester Bay and we needed a better way of doing the straps so you did not have to take the awning off.

Felt kinda sad because of what is happening in the RV world with the fuel costs and some RV businesses and brands going out of business and less people are on the road with their RV's, this crew were hurting for customers.

We went to dinner next door at the Richfield Restaurant and looked like we had stepped back in time of 1940! Very old restaurant that was the Richfield Ice cream shop. Great food and I loved that my drink & dessert were part of the main meal price. Loved the decor!

Dan learned how to reprogram the Dome Satellite dish, it has been iffy lately so now he knows how to make sure he is on the right satellite.

The guys lifted the frig vent a tad bit to get more circulation but did not screw down two screws tight so as we were going down the road I heard a banging noise and told Dan it has to be the vent and it is loose. Pulled over to a rest stop and I climbed up on top and sure enough one side was totally loose! Got it screwed down and respread the caulking around the screws so we do not have leaks.

We walked down the road to the Moore's Riverboat Restaurant and had a great dinner overlooking the Delta. This week there was a Bass fishing tournament so the campgrounds were packed with fisherman

Laura & Gordan hadn't checked their E-mail so did not know we were going to the Lighthouse Campground so when I knocked on their door, Laura shrieked with delight that we were there!

Chuck & Dorathy have a lot in the Yuma AZ Foothills not far from us where they have a lovely home.

Laura and Dorathy are Beaders and have done beautiful necklaces, earrings and bracelets out of beads.

Samoa Cookhouse in Eureka CA Oct 10th

This is the Samoa Cookhouse that has been around for a long long time. Built in 1893. The miners and loggers came here for 3 meals a day every day and the food is fabulous and I loved the decor, felt like I had stepped back in time.

We had a old fashioned lunch served family style of salad, soup, fresh baked bread and they brought you huge slices with butter. Pork roast with REAL mashed potatoes , dressing and homemade gravy, fresh green beans and for dessert it was lemon cheesecake and all the coffee, iced tea or water you could drink.

Great prices and I liked the old museum to the side of it. The Somoa Cookhouse is the last surviving cookhouse in the West.

Best lunch I have eaten and reminded me of my grandma Ruby's cooking! So good!!
Come prepared with a empty belly because they will give you LOTS!! We'll be back!!

R(o)Ving Rods Rally in Winchester Bay OR Sept 27th-Oct 8th 2008

Dan and I kept hearing about the
R(o)Ving Rods through other friends and we like crabbing and Dan loves to fish. So we decided we would join this fun group and drove to Winchester Bay at the Salmon Harbor just past Reedsport Oregon.

Despite the rainy-chilly weather we think we had a good time and Dan caught 44 crabs!!!

So now our freezer is full of Salmon from Alaska and Crab from Oregon!

We had a lot of fun, had plenty of Happy Hours, potluck dinner, dinner out. Storm came in and we were rocking pretty good and rain was flying sideways! Wind was so blowing no less than 50 M.P.H. that night.

Saw George & Judy Hilke and then met a whole bunch of new people. We can say we had a great time and looking forward to next year now that we have joined the group and new members #686.

This winter we need to find a outdoors propane cooker for the pot to cook the crabs . Will look at the Yuma Marketplace and Quartzsite for one.

Winchester Bay OR Sept 27th-Oct 8th 2008

We had some nasty days of rain but we did not let us stop from having a pot luck dinner.

This Lady came came to our happy hours, she was 90 yrs old and her husband was 75

Here I am with the R(o)Ving Rod Gang for "Pickin Day". we started at 10A.M. picking all the cooked crabs and then I went back to the motorhome and picked mine and was not done till 3:30! That's alot of work!!

Dan getting the crabs out of the Crab Traps, we found the traps were easier to use than the rings, we could thow them in the water and check on them several hours later. Little crabs would go back out but it would trap the big crabs. We used chicken for bait.

This was Ron Bonhams outside cooking area. He even had a outside propane oven!

Dan and I were not prepared this year and did not have a outside propane cooker, so we had to boil the crabs inside. We'll be ready next year! Will look for good deals at the Yuma Marketplace or at Quartzsite in January for one.

Several RV's boxed in the area so we could put tables in the middle to block the wind but because of the crappy weather it didn't help much. It did give us privacy though for our group.

Dan bringing up the crab rings, we had 3 of them and found out you have to pull them up every 15 min and became alot of work so we switched to the crab traps instead.

Gray Whales in Depoe Bay OR

As we were leaving Pete & Anne Camerons in Depoe Bay we paused over by the side of the bridge and noticed out in the water Gray whales were out in front of us and saw some more as we headed towards Newport.
Some lady said "It's a big Seal" I said "that's a gray whale....Seals do not have a blowhole "and we could see the spray!

We had seen seals and Sea Lions but this was the first time we had seen the Whales since our trip to Alaska.

Day In Depoe Bay OR

We loved seeing our friends Pete & Anne Cameron in Depoe Bay. They have a beautiful house that is up for sale that overlooks the Depoe Bay Bridge and Marina. They are planning to move to a one level floor home close by. Anne suffered a stroke several years ago so having to not go up and down stairs will help her.

Thanks again Pete for making us a yummy dinner!

Sealions on the pier in Old Town of Newport Oregon, funny trying to see the younger seals trying to get up on the pier and the older big ones barking and not letting them up!

We have learned to come to Newport to see the Sea Lions instead of down the road to the Sea Lion Caves.










Trudy and I went to a Glass Blowing shop and I just loved the Pumpkins made from Glass. These two young Men were making glass rods with the molten glass. Someday I plan on going back to Newport and take a class there. To get the pumpkin shape they blow the glass and then put the glass while it is still hot into a pumpkin mold to make the ridges. To get the stem they would pull the hot glass and twist it. Really cool to watch and these guys.
